Google Supplemental Index

I have dabbled with web stuff back from the days when you used notepad and hard coded HTML the hard way, over the years played with a bunch of different softwares to build sites, well most of us have moved on to some very cool CMS systems (Content Management Systems) well we have found that the content we place on most of our sites now days gets indexed into google very quick and with good content they place very high on the list, I some other friends that have a very large website coded from the ground up (using PHP and mysql) and for some reason they talk about their pages being in Google's Supplemental index, well I kept hearing the term and had no idea what it meant.
With a little research I found that there really is such a thing and it stems from what I can see is a couple reasons in no certain order... creating pages that are on your site with no way to get there but typing it in; so putting pages on your site just so that google finds more pages is a bad thing, these will be placed in the supplemental index, also having pages that have no real content on them, so as a rule don't create a page that later you plan on putting stuff on it, wait and put the page up when you are ready to place content on it... and if you create that page, make sure there is a link of some sort to be able to get to the page. Other things that that can land you in the google land of the lost: grabbing content from someone elses page, believe it or not google keeps track of everything and if they see it one multiple sites you will be docked for it. Also unrelated content, google is claimed to look at the sites overall spirit and judges to see if the content fits within that or if it is just fill to make your site bigger, this also goes for sites linking to your site (even though you can't fully control this part) but if you have links to your site from a bunch of sites that have nothing to do with what your site is about you will be docked. Its said that once your pages get in the Supplemental Index its near impossible to get them out.
Tips to stay out of Google's Supplemental index
1. No Empty pages
2. Don't place BS links out on the web
3. Make content relavent and original
4. No hidden pages (unless you have a robot.txt file to keep google away)
5. Real content and Time is your only way to make it to the top.
