AIM Phone takes on Skype

America On Line has started a new service to take on Skype, they now offer a real phone number for free, thats right Free Phone Service. All incoming calls are 100% free, outgoing is where they want to hit you for $14.95 a month. So if need a couple phone numbers for maybe a business for incoming customer service or something it just might fit the bill. I haven't personally tried it yet, so if anyone does let us know what you think. I assume that it will work with the same little box I use for Skype to ring on my normal phone (line 2), now for you Apple people you're out of luck with the regular phone thing.
Us Apple people are out of luck all together with this service. Trying to log in using Safari did not work. I logged in through Firefox, but then I find out I need AIM 6.x to use this service on my computer like Skype. AIM on the Macintosh is at 4.7 and has not been updated since 2004.
So unless I need a free voicemail service... I'll pass.
My guess is AOL is having a hard enough time trying to stay afloat that they are forgetting us Mac people.
I guess I'll stick with Skype for now. And with my Skype and my Mac, I could hook up any phone to it finally http://www.von-phone.com/usb_skype_phone_adapter.php :)
